Joey's most successful job is as Ranger Joe on an afternoon children's variety TV show. Ranger Joe's sidekick is his wise-cracking ventriloquist puppet Mr. Woodchuck. In "Radio Days", he is fired when he does not work well with his new on-screen partner, Jungle Jenny, who happens to be the boss's wife. Later in that episode, Joey and Jesse become partners again in an afternoon radio show called, "Rush Hour Renegades" on FM KFLH 95. In 1976, Joey faced Hershel "Stonewall" Binkley in hockey, but he lost, embarrassing him because his family and Danny were watching him during the game in his college days ("Nice Guys Finish First"). While Joey is gone for two weeks on a college tour, the others decide to build him his own bedroom in the garage.

Joey initially slept in the alcove of Danny's living room. However, after complaining of not being able to find privacy, Danny and Jesse reconstructs Danny's basement garage into a bedroom for him. This way if being a comedian didn't work out he had a solid career to fall back on.

In "Driving Miss D.J." (5.20), he reminds Michelle that while she and Stephanie share a room, she must go play elsewhere in the event that Stephanie has her friends over, similar to what Stephanie did when she shared the room with D.J. He reminds her that they can't play favorites, and even preaches the classic proverb "You can't always get what you want in life", and his example is that he wanted to be Fred Flintstone growing up, but he "had too many toes". In "The Heartbreak Kid" (6.16), he reminds Michelle that married people (in real life) have to move out of their initial home, asking if that's what she really wants.

The Time Joey and Jesse Change Michelle's Diaper

Downstairs, Jesse and Joey give a coffee toast to their new business of Double J Creative Services. As they drink, they find out the coffee tastes a little bitter, and Joey remarks that next time they will have to remember to plug the coffee maker in first. When Danny confronts Joey, they remember the day when they became friends in the 5th grade in 1968, when they protected each other. Per the flashback, it was recess, and young Danny was sitting on a bench with a nosebleed, when their teacher, Ms. Borland ordered young Joey to sit there as well, for causing mischief. The class bully (who was implied to have caused Danny's nosebleed) then approached the two, and started to harass Danny, but Joey drove him off with some insults from his joke book. The bully returned a moment later with Ms. Borland, who was prepared to call Joey's parents, but Danny covered for him. Ms. Borland accepted Danny's word without question, as he was the teacher's pet, and she took the bully to the principal's office, revealing his name to be Sheldon, much to Danny and Joey's amusement.

Joey just barely edged Jesse out in terms of laughs thanks to the moment when his quick thinking led him to preserve Michelle's used diaper in Tupperware. Of course Joey was an April Fools' Day master. After spending most of the Season 7 episode, "Love on the Rocks," pranking the family, Jesse and the rest of the gang planned an elaborate trick to make Joey believe he had won the lottery. Joey being Joey was way ahead of them, and ready to outprank his family like a pro.

It contains Danny's old Giants cap, Joey's first joke book, and, of all things, the pledge they signed, which was a pledge to always be friends. Danny reminds Joey (as the inspirational music plays) that things are not the same as they were before, because, with Jesse and Joey working together now, Joey may have forgotten about his initial friendship with Danny. Joey apologizes for taking their friendship for granted. Although there was some tension between Joey and Jesse when they first move in with the Tanners, they quickly become good friends to the point where Jesse asks Joey to be his best-man at his wedding. Jesse also insists his children call Joey, "Uncle Joey" as a sign of respect. Joey was not related to the Tanner family, but he acts as an uncle to the kids of the house.
